Electric Feat interview

Brutal, mysterious, sweet, excited, smashing, their music will catch you from the beginning to the end of this wild ride. A big punch in the face. Electric Feat, the fairly new heavy-rock quartet from Athens, Greece have recently released their self-titled debut record via Inner Ear.

Electric Feat are:
Dionysis Nanos (Dr. Nanos), guitar
Themos Ragousis (Madam Manthos), bass
Georgios Dimakis (Prins Obi), vocals, percussion
Kostas Stergiou (The Tree), drums, percussion

Would you like to talk a bit about your background? What are some bands/musicians that have a big influence on you?

Electric Feat: Hey! Thanks for your interest. We have all been playing in other bands in the past decade mostly oriented in psychedelic rock and pop. We met each other in a local pub where we used to drink at and soon found out about our common interest in old rock and metal. We could say our biggest influences are bands on the borderline between hard rock and heavy metal (Black Sabbath, BOC) with an extra touch of garage and psychedelic rock (Alice Cooper Band). Of course each one of us has different tastes so everything from progressive to folk rock comes into play.

When did you decide that you wanted to start writing and performing your own music? What brought that about for you?

That was a long time ago, nowadays it has become a second nature… Either we practice and a good idea comes up and we keep it, either we want to create a piece more specific in feeling and sound. If we tried to rationalise this, the more we play music the more we want to be creative and expressive, trying to find our own voice.

How did you two get together to form Electric Feat?

We formed Electric Feat in autumn 2017, Dionysis and George knew each other since high school and used to play in other bands in the past. They met with Themos and the band started taking shape. George played with Kostas in other projects and later on he joined, only to reveal his favourite band is Scorpions! It was a match made in hell.

Can you share some further details how your latest album Electric Feat was recorded?

As soon as we formed the band we played our own songs, from autumn 2017 to October 2018 we were writing ideas and rehearsing and when we deemed the material enough in quality and duration, we decided it was time to record. We reached out to our friend Sergios Voudris to do the recording, talked about what we had in mind and the feeling we wanted to achieve. We think that the goal was achieved, somewhat dark and raw, but with a feeling of good times and carefreeness.

“We wanted the album to have a live feel”

What kind of equipment did you use and who was the producer? How many hours did you spend in the studio?

The album was produced by ourselves and our friend and owner of the studio, Sergios Voudris, and we all together pitched in our opinions on sound and orchestration. We mostly used vintage equipment although that was not totally intended. We wanted the album to have a live feel, so we did most of it quickly without many overdubs. Then we added some flavor (extra guitars, Lowrey organ, percussion). This resulted to a sound that retains its sloppy, loud and sweaty quality and reminded us of a time when bands didn’t care if everything was perfect because they had something to say.

Can you tell me, in your own words, what am I listening to when I listen to your debut?

Four people trying to have fun, doing something they love. From the beginning we agreed, either we have fun or we stop and we have not stopped.

Let’s end this interview with some of your favourite albums. Have you found something new lately you would like to recommend to our readers?

The first six black Sabbath albums are among our favorites. Lately we have been listening to Sleepwulf’s first album. Furthermore, one of our favorite albums is Roky Erickson and the Aliens’ The Evil One. The last month we have been listening a lot to Wizar’d’s latest album Subterranean Exile.

Thank you. Last word is yours.

Nothing comes easy and we live in a reality with constant war and disease, so be mindful of what makes you happy and have empathy for the less fortunate, because if your environment is ill, so are you.
