Exclusive album premiere of ‘7 is a Magick Number’ by multi-instrumentalist Zakk For Real, due out May 7th.

From the chilly streets of Chilliwack, a small town outside of Vancouver, Zakk For Real put together his debut album, ‘7 Is A Magick Number’.

The record is a seven-song journey of pure voodoo-soaked psychedelia. Zakk played in punk and psych rock bands for years, but this album is his first solo effort, and it shines with bright notes of pure passion. From the twang of jangly electric guitars to the dreamy vocal tones and effects, each song carries its own secrets and old-soul wisdom, while also laced with warm and fuzzy influences like T. Rex and Ty Segall. Zakk’s lyrics range from silly to serious, covering a span of topics he cares about with the effortless rhyme and rhythm of a true poet.

“The lyrics on this record vary,” Zakk says. “They include interactions with entities in dreams, the non-stop harassment women get on a daily basis, not giving up on your goals no matter how hard you try to convince yourself otherwise, and, of course, the universally overblown egos found in musicians.”

The record was created almost entirely by Zakk, except for the group vocals on ‘Gamma Love’ – an upbeat and catchy track about toxic love. For his live band, Zakk’s assembled a talented group of friends that include Casey Anderson on drums, Cam McCulloch on bass, and Carl Hands on second guitar.

“I can see this lineup proceeding on for a long time, unless someone decides to get married or converts to some sort of cult,” Zakk says, laughing. “I’m thrilled to have this solid group of people to bring these songs to life.”
