‘Bullets’ by Dark Canyon | Announces Debut Self-Titled Album

Dark Canyon, the project of Chicago based musician and producer Mike Novak, presents ‘Bullets’, the first pre-release single from his new self-titled LP, out September 16 on Nudie Records.
The project began as a series of home demos, inspired by old library music records and Novak’s love for the American west. Recorded over the span of four years throughout Chicago and beyond, Dark Canyon is a reverent exploration of the iconic sounds of classic spaghetti western film scores. Balancing fuzz guitars with reverb soaked trumpet lines and lush string passages, the final result is a record that not only sounds like – but feels like – a lost reel of tape from a film studio archive.
On ‘Bullets’, Novak presents a vast landscape textured with haunting tremolo guitar and harmonica refrain. Rattlesnake percussion and distant whistles build tension until a harpsichord driven groove sweeps the listener into a deeper level of desert scenery. With the accompanying video, directed and shot on 8mm film by Delaney Teichler, grainy scenery provides the perfect visual reference for this climatic single.
Over 15 tracks, including several dramatic interludes, Dark Canyon unfolds as a cinematic escape, a mental respite, and an introspective journey. The full length album will be available September 16 through Nudie Records on glorious gold-nugget vinyl.
