‘Jesus’ by My Violence | New Debut LP

Exclusive video premiere of ‘Jesus’ by My Violence, taken from the upcoming self-titled album, out today.

My Violence is the nom de plume of Viennese chanteuse Silvia Ryder, formerly half of dream-pop duo Sugarplum Fairies. Today, Ryder finally shares the project’s brand new self-titled debut LP, ‘My Violence’ (out now via all DSPs).

The record — preceded by singles ‘Harlot’ and ‘20,000 Dashboard Angels,’ and ‘Unicorn Girls,’ each with their own accompanying video depicting fleeting vignettes of debauchery, pandemonium, and a celestial love affair — was produced and mixed by Gold Star. It is an exploration of a cinematic tapestry of distinctive soundscapes, created via a self-imposed guitar ban by solely composing on the cult-favorite synthesizer, the Omnichord. Dalliances of arco double bass, psychedelic pedal steel, and a Baldwin Fun Machine complement Ryder’s understated Nico-esque vocals, which alternate between head voice and double tracked/binaural layers. Her obliquely diaristic lyrics subsequently morphed into an accidental “concept” album, centering around – both real and imaginary – divergent protagonists.

Alongside the LP’s drop today, Ryder shares a new video for the focus track, ‘Jesus,’ which is her take on the classic Velvet Underground cut.

As Ryder wrote: “‘Jesus’ is a layered psychedelic interpretation of The Velvet Underground’s minimalistic original version. The song features additional vocals by Danny Lee Blackwell (Night Beats) and is accompanied by an excerpt of Marc Kehoe’s VHS video ‘Sick Sick Sister.'”
