‘Yarns Spun’ by Soft Self Portraits | Album Premiere

Exclusive album premiere of ‘Yarns Spun’ by Soft Self Portraits, out on September 6.

Soft Self Portraits’ Cody Wade began with a simple cassette deck and synth experiment, which evolved into a deeply personal exploration. Their latest album, ‘Yarns Spun,’ is a dreamy, melancholic journey that processes seismic life changes and emotions through ethereal melodies and raw indie rock drums.

“These songs weave together stories of unrequited love, shedding old habits, and self-discovery,” Wade shares.

Initially a Louisville bedroom pop project, Soft Self Portraits has come full circle, returning to its solo roots after a stint as a shoegaze band. Now based in Seattle, Wade found inspiration in the city’s supportive music scene, rekindling the project with a renewed sense of identity.

‘Yarns Spun’ revisits unreleased tracks and introduces new ones, blending 1980s new wave textures with live drums. Wade’s poignant lyrics reflect their journey toward self-acceptance, offering a reflective and triumphant listening experience.

“To call this a labor of love would be an understatement. It’s a 9-year journey of self-discovery, growth, and breathing new life into these songs, melodies, and words that have meant so much to me,” says Wade, capturing the essence of the album’s emotional depth.
