Far Out Nashville Fourth Annual Psychedelic Music, Film & Arts Festival Goes Digital and Free

Far Out Free Fest: The 4th Dimension hits global stream waves June 18-21 in partnership with Third Man Books, Red Bull & It’s Psychedelic Baby Magazine!

The Far Out Nashville psychedelic music, film and arts festival is embarking into the digital realm for the upcoming summer solstice, June 18th through 21st. The 4 day digital happening invites the world’s freaks and techno-pagans to tune-in to catch “in-studio” (so to speak) performances from Jason Miller of Lemurians, Luke ambient pedal steel artist Luke Schneider, electronic goddess Diatom Deli, the Sitar Outreach Ministry and more TBA. Attendees can also expect to enjoy a hallucinatory home-cinema experience known as Far Out Flix, poetry readings curated by Third Man Books and featuring national and local writers such as occult poet Janaka Stucky, droning electronic meditations with Al Lover, psychedelic heavy metal infused yoga instructionals with Power Spell Yoga and the launch of the online Far Out Market. It’s 100% digital and 100% free. However, for those who can – donations will be encouraged during the broadcast to directly benefit the performing artists and to support the furthering psychedelic science research and therapies through MAPS, which has been Far Out’s charity of choice since year one.

“In these new times as people are being invited to reassess the habits and thoughts and modes of being they’ve held for life, psychedelic therapy is more important than ever. ” Ames said.

The annual event begins its digital journey on Thursday, June 18th at faroutfreefest.com, kicking off with Far Out Flix, a collection of psychotropic, mind-bending, trance-inducing digital creations. Selected from submissions collected leading up to the festival, these pieces are intended to complement the hallucinatory sounds of the music arm of the event. This year’s theme invites filmmakers to return to their minds – through meditation, dreams, entheogenics, collective consciousness and introspection. After the film viewings, there will be a film scoring performance from Black Moon Mother, live from Meltface Studios in Nashville, TN. At the end of the festival weekend, the winners of the Far Out Flix Audience Award, Insightors Award, and Astral Guru Award will be announced.

Far Out Free Fest will continue the stream on Friday and Saturday with guided morning meditations and yoga followed by exclusive performances from international, national, regional and local bands. All performers will be sharing extra special, far out versions of their sets and these performances will be available live during the broadcast, as well as posted on faroutfreefest.com for exclusive viewing until the end of day Sunday, June 21, when they will be put into the Far Out vault, forever.

The event will also include the unveiling of the online Far Out Market, which will have collections of limited-run merchandise collaborations with a portion of proceeds going to charity.

Far Out Nashville was founded by local artists Kari Leigh Ames and Brianne O’Neill. Ames works continually alongside local and national bands by providing liquid visuals at concerts with her company Labrys Light Show, while O’Neill fronts the “doom-gaze” quintet Black Moon Mother. Both were inspired by similar festivals around the country and saw a need for such an event in Nashville. This year Far Out Nashville has partnered with Red Bull and It’s Psychedelic Baby Magazine.

On March 3rd, Far Out lost their festival venue the Basement East due to decimation by tornado. The pandemic quickly helped them decide which direction to head in: “I try to think of it as an opportunity for us to re-think what it means to be a festival at a base-level and how we could still create a special place – even out of pixels and binary code – to commune with other far out people while highlighting artists we admire.” Says co-founder Kari Leigh Ames.
