‘Brain Food EP’ by Birmingham psych trippers Brain Food
Birmingham psych trippers Brain Food release new self titled EP.
Midlands surf-psych outfit Brain Food have released their second EP on Friday, March 13th. The self titled record has five new tracks written by the Birmingham based quartet, recorded by Mark Gittins at Megatone Studios Birmingham and mastered by Dave McCabe at Muthers Studio.
Brain Food is Liam McKeown (vocals, guitar), Jakob Edge (guitar), William Scarrott (bass) and Connor Doyle (drums). Having formed in the dying embers of 2017, the band pays homage to the vinyl soaked psych greats of their past like Frank Zappa and Jimi Hendrix, whilst creating brain melting, groove laden surf tracks.
Brain Food’s self titled EP coincides with the music video for lead single ‘Forbidden Tongue’, a cosmic trip with a kaleidoscope of colour, looking deep into the mind’s eye of Brain Food, shifting fluorescent colours with every riff and tempo change. ‘Forbidden Tongue’ was filmed by Billy Smallman-Kopf, edited by Leila Ghazzawi and directed by Jakob Cusp.
Since writing, mixing and releasing their first EP ‘Get One On’ in 2018 – Brain Food’s unique psychedelic sound has grabbed the attention of Birmingham and further afield, having headlined hometown venues as well as London, Leeds and Manchester, along with supporting Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Boy Azooga, Stonefield and Froth and performing at the prestigious Mothers festival.
