‘The Light Between Your Eyes’ by Krief
Exclusive video premier of ‘The Light Between Your Eyes’, from psychedelic pop album ‘Chemical Trance’ by Krief.
Patrick Krief has turned on, tuned in, dropped out and come out the other side with a psychedelic masterpiece. The Montreal musician taps into that holy intersection of divine and mortality, confronting his own vulnerabilities in a beautiful cacophony that, at times, recalls Pink Floyd, late-era Beatles, Leonard Cohen and Radiohead.
The video was directed by Maia Davies.
“As in with the whole of the visual accompaniment to Krief’s record, I chose to explore the nature of choice, and its parallel realities. The idea that one person exists in a multitude of timelines. Whether you take this literally, as in theories of a multiverse, or more spiritually, questioning the notion of free will, I wanted to show how delicate our view of ourselves can be if we aren’t open to the possibility that we are more than one thing. That even our own perception of ourselves is inherently biased, and that through facing ourselves we have the power to be anything we want potentially. Bad, good, happy, free, lost, we are all these things at once. The song goes through a rollercoaster of emotions and realizations both lyrically and musically, and Krief the songwriter is often being pulled in many directions too. I chose what I thought was the most extreme visual exposition of this feeling to show that perceptions of who we are is what traps us. I opened with two Kriefs singing to other, facing each other for this reason. And then it gets…crazy haha.”
