Children of The Stones – Extended Play EP (2014) review

Children of The Stones  “Extended Play” EP (Saint Marie,
2014)
Children of The Stones is the enigmatic name of the new
collaboration between Mark Van Hoen (Seefeel) and Martin Maeers. This teaser EP
features several mixes of the title track from their forthcoming full length
“The Stars and The Silence”, a glitchy tinkler with a smooth New Order vibe.
The lengthier “Elika Remix” distorts the vocals and concentrates more on the
spacey electronics fx. Longer still is a “Carta Remix”, the most ethereal of
them all, with Maeers’ soft vocals to the fore, almost like whispering a fairy
tale to our inner ear while revolving electronics swirl around the room.
Dreamy, passionate with slightly hallucinogenic overtones. Best experienced
with a warm body and a chilled wine.
                “Your
Storm” entices the senses and beckons the listener to the dance floor for a
samba or a slow, cheek-to-cheek confab, although the krautrock vibe of “Guiding
Light” and the other worldly swirling electronics of “Saudade” suggest more
than sweat and a fast heartbeat is at the core of Messrs. Van Hoen and Maeers
modus operandi. A pleasant little plum that has us salivating for the whole
enchilada. It’ll be interesting to see and hear what magic swirling trip they
have planned for us.
