‘Rapid Fire’ by Pop Pop Vernac
Exclusive album premiere of ‘Rapid Fire’ (releases on March 5, 2021) by Pop Pop Vernac.
Four friends bonded in the summer of 2017 and formed Pop Pop Vernac. Reminiscent of the raw, frantic energy one might have felt playing in a rock band full of Jolt Cola back in high school, they are super catchy with an expressively loose and high impact sound. All four members write and sing, both lead and backing vocals. Their first year of playing out was all fundraisers; the group had raised money for Life By Life, Rainbow Youth Centre, and Autism Resource Centre, among others. They have toured the Canadian prairies, and have released cassettes in 2017 and 2018, a compact disc in 2019, and their free digital visual album entitled ‘Rapid Fire’ releases on March 5, 2021.
Living through the 2020 quarantine was hard for everyone, and this pandemic has changed so many lives. Pop Pop Varnac had the privilege to be able to plug in and play, so they knew they had to adapt and continue to write. They collaborated remotely with Micaella Joy, a poet and promoter who gave them their first show back in 2017, and who was finishing up a fortnight of quarantine at the time of recording. Micaella wrote the album’s opener, ‘Cold War’, which speaks to the heightened demands on artists, industries, and mothers during this pandemic.

Pop Pop Vernac wrote 8 more interwoven songs that are gone in a blink, and compiled them into a free visual album to be enjoyed in the safety and comfort of your own phone. If you’re going to scroll so much, you might as well have a free album while you’re at it.
