Reynols
‘Gona Rubian Ranesa’ is the first album in 17 years from the long-running Argentinian psych rock band Reynols.
“A week can be a year, a second can be a century”
What took you so long?
Roberto Conlazo and Anla Courtis: Well, in fact it’s the first proper new studio record in a long time but before that we released the 6CD/1DVD Box Set ‘Minecxio Emanations 1993-2018’ and the ‘Acid Mothers Reynols Vol. 1 ‘ collaboration.
Anyway all these years we’ve been recording tons of hours in different ways. The first volume of home recordings made at Miguel Tomasin’s bedroom had been released in the UK as ‘Home Tapes Vol.1’ and this series will keep growing.
Tell me about about the new album.
We think it’s an album to tame thunders. Probably the perfect choice to enjoy a glass of whisky with ice-cubes made with tsunami wave water.
It’s called ‘Gona Rubian Ranesa’.
It’s based on words invented by Miguel Tomasín. For months he refused to let us know its meaning but one day he pointed a sun ray coming through his window and he said: “This is my new pet, Gona Rubian Ranesa”.
It contains the classic Reynols sound.
It’s like Tango but made of sonic antimatter.
It’s the most accessible Reynols album to date.
Well, from a technical point of view it was recorded in one of the best studios in Argentina, on 36 digital channels, so that might make it a bit more accessible to some ears.
But at the same time it can be as accessible as to catch an elephant falling from a skyscraper.
Do you see Reynols also as a psychedelic music?
Psychedelic is not just a music genre, it’s something which transcends. It depends on your mind state. If you find a way to alter your mind enough, it could be chemical, circular breathing, meditation, astral projection or any other method.
Julio Iglesias or Amon Düül can both be psychedelic.
“When we get together it flows like a waterfall beyond time and space”
Is is esoteric music?
We’re not qualified to answer that question but maybe we can hire a medium to ask Hermes Trismegistus what he thinks about it.
What do the four of you have in common?
Before playing we are four. When playing we’re just one. And after playing, for some seconds we may be one hundred fifty four or any other number depending on the atmospheric conditions.
How did Reynols changed between 1993 and now?
We notice a slight change in the triglyceride level but musically we’ve been always rather anachronic. A week can be a year, a second can be a century. Somehow that music remains inside us. When we get together it flows like a waterfall beyond time and space.
