‘Valley’ by EZ Basic | New Album, ‘Resonance’
After more than three years of silence, the Budapest based indie/psych-pop pioneer is back with a new material, and on a new musical journey.
At the moment consisting only of chief songwriter and founding member Árpád Szarvas, EZ Basic re-emerges with a new album, ‘Resonance’ (out on October 14th) with an exclusive premiere of one of its tracks.
“Inspired by German writer/sociologist, Hartmut Rosa’s concept of “resonance” (and our strained relationship with accelerated modern society), fuelled by lockdown alienation,
and copious amounts of vintage psychedelic-pop, folk, and various futuro-retro obscurities consumed, the new EZ Basic album emerged from a combination of the above. When I started writing, I imagined the songs as 3-minute floating memories, with a slightly apocalyptic undertone to them, from a nostalgic, pastel-coloured world.

The perfect person to capture this mood on camera as well was Hungarian photographer Marietta Varga, who shot the cover photo for ‘Valley’, and also for the upcoming singles.
‘Valley’ was one of the first tracks written for the new album, and just like the rest of the songs, it was mixed and mastered by British producer George Shilling (who I already worked with on some of our earlier materials). It’s a slightly darker, folk-infused track with a foreboding atmosphere looming over it, and it kind of reflects the feeling I had when recording the tracks in early Spring, at the height of the pandemic, having to wear a mask in my friend’s cold studio from early morning until late afternoon each day. There is a bit of an uncertainty in the song as well: you can’t really tell if it’s someone saying their goodbyes, or someone who just got back with a vengeance after a long absence.” Árpád Szarvas
