‘We All Start Again’ by Henry Chadwick | Album Premiere
Exclusive album stream of ‘We All Start Again’ by Henry Chadwick, out today via Swoon City Music.
Henry Chadwick has quickly become a household name in indie rock in the past few years. Debuting today his new album ‘We All Start Again’ via Swoon City Music, Chadwick impresses once again with infectious melodies, harmonious vocals, and hypnotic instrumentation that carries throughout the record. Throughout this year we have heard Henry release successful singles such as ‘Bloodshot’, ‘Tomorrow is Today’, and most recently ‘Mind’s Eye’, which has been making waves.
‘We All Start Again’ as a whole will entice you from start to finish. The lyrics are front and center, for every chorus comes in with a burst of excitement. The multifaceted layers help to wind, unfurling the whole experience in a way that feels outright masterful. Every word is chosen with care, making sure that they cut to the very bone. The experience itself has a rather sun-drenched attitude to it. So much energy and activity take place, with the sounds folding into themselves, that at times the atmosphere tends to draw a bit from nostalgic indie artists of years past.
By far the highlight of the album ‘You Saw Too Much’ evolves in a way that is a pure joy. More informal ‘Long Way Back’ has a twisted quality for the song is constantly stretched apart and reconfigured in wonderful ways, with the guitar work in particular containing such soul. The guitar gains a summery spirit with the spaced-out vibes of the track which carries throughout the record. With the intensity of tracks like ‘Long Vacation’ Chadwick ties all that came before together in a masterful fashion.
“I wanted to make a record that sounded beautiful and cozy and soothing, while also rocking and occasionally even rolling. If I don’t say so myself, I do believe I’ve done just that. I didn’t have any sort of concept going into making the record other than that. I think it’s the most honest and vulnerable I’ve let myself be. It’s got more variety, and sounds more mature than anything I’ve done I think. I’m so close to all the songs that it’s hard to give the album a proper diagnostic, but I really do feel proud of this record. It’s exactly the record I wanted to make and it really sums up where my head’s been at the past couple years. All these songs mean a lot to me and I think that if a potential listener gives it a chance, puts it on and listens through in their headphones or in their car or really just about anywhere, they might just enjoy it themselves”. Henry Chadwick
Henry draws influences as much from music of the past (The Beatles, The Kinks, T. Rex, Nirvana, David Bowie et cetera) and from current artists who keep pushing forward stylistically and sonically. Henry makes catchy, thoughtful and usually energetic music with a unique perspective, edge and charm, and is often compared to The Strokes and Mac DeMarco.
Henry was raised in a studio environment, his father being an engineer who worked out of Cherokee studios in Hollywood through the 1980’s and continued to record in his home studio in the Santa Cruz Mountains moving in 1989 to raise a family. Henry has been playing in bands and learning how to record music since he was a youngster. He also spends time playing drums in the touring roots-rock band, The Coffis Brothers and fronted the band My Stupid Brother.
