Field Guide Announces Coldplay Cover LP Featuring Lizzy McAlpine, Katie Munshaw (Dizzy), & Begonia

Today, Winnipeg-based artist Field Guide has announces his forthcoming reimagining of Coldplay’s seminal record, ‘Parachutes’.

After abruptly moving to a new city right before a global pandemic, Field Guide holed up in his Toronto apartment and did nothing but play guitar and write songs. In May 2020 he packed up a rental van and came back to the prairies to record an album that would go on to become two short EPs and his debut release, ‘Make Peace With That’.

A prolific artist, and never one to sit idle, Field Guide will release his reimagining of Coldplay’s seminal album, ‘Parachutes’, this November, and is busy working towards his sophomore release, to be recorded in studios across Canada this fall, and released in 2022.

On the forthcoming record, he continued:
“Coldplay was one of the first bands that I discovered on my own as a kid. Their early records have played an important role in my development as a songwriter. Originally I had planned to perform ‘Parachutes’ in it’s entirety with my band in Toronto, when live playing disappeared from the realm of possibility I shifted gears and decided to take the idea into studio land. My pal and co-producer Kris Ulrich and I began the project in January 2021 just outside of Riding Mountain National Park where my family has a little cabin. The frigid outside temperature and roaring wood stove set the tone for a cozy and intimate take on a classic album. With the help of friends and collaborators in Winnipeg, the record quickly took shape. It’s tricky trying to re-produce an album that is so well done and well loved but I’m really proud of where the album ended up living. The addition of some wonderful guest vocalists (Begonia, Lizzy McAlpine, and Dizzy’s Katie Munshaw) gave us further opportunity to explore new territory and present these songs in an interesting new light.”

In other news, Field Guide’s debut new LP, ‘Make Peace With That’, is out now out via Birthday Cake. Additionally, this fall, Field Guide going on tour with support from Georgia Harmer. His shows supporting Leif Vollebekk have been rescheduled to early 2022 due to COVID.
