Danish cult legends return after a decade away with garage rock infused new album ‘Heavy On The Tongue’. New video for ‘Lightning Zone’ tells the story of delivery drivers in China during the pandemic.
In China, there is a tradition, that goes back to the very beginning, of eating together and sharing your food with others – this brings you closer together and creates intimacy. But during the pandemic, for many people in China, including myself, this tradition was not possible to withstand, though this was probably the time where we needed it the most. Most of the Chinese delivery riders are migrant workers from provinces all around China. They are living in unknown territory, far away from family and friends, working long hours, to deliver whatever you need to your doorstep. In times of lock-downs, masking, closed work places, encouragements to stay home, the only friendly face you would see would be the face of the delivery rider, bringing you your food. For a lot of people the delivery riders would become the face of the modern day hero, a hero who came to your rescue covering your basic needs. But often at the end of the day, this hero would end up eating alone. When I heard the track, ‘Lightning Zone,’ it instantly gave me the feeling of urban loneliness, which I felt was very suitable for telling a story about the delivery rider, the longing for intimacy and the importance of sharing a meal. The film was captured with an iPhone in Shanghai with an all Chinese crew. Parts of the footage were shot during the pandemic all while the world was closing down. China only opened up its borders in March 2023, and we decided to pick up stuff and finish the film in a now “open” China.” – Christian Ørneborg (film director)
Copenhagen based rock duo Howl Baby Howl is the musical meeting of Jeppe Brix (guitars and vocals) and Silas Tinglef (drums and vocals). The duo just released their first album in a decade, a great collection of 10 sensational catchy psychedelic garage rock tracks, replete with immense fuzzy riffs, whirling drums and big melodies.
The songs on ‘Heavy On The Tongue’ reflect on the times we live in, the disillusionment of humankind, and the need to stay optimistic. The album was recorded and produced by Howl Baby Howl and mixed by Greg Saunier of Deerhoof and mastered by Brian Batz from Sleep Party People. Touring begins with Danish rockers The Sandmen with more live shows and some major remixes from Anders Trentemøller and TOM and his Computer to follow as 2023 gets further underway.
