Ottawa-Hull-based indie-rock band Pony Girl are masters of art pop, invigorating stages with a prismatic sound that’s all their own. The band — who released their debut LP with Paper Bag Records (and third LP in general), ‘Enny One Wil Love You,’ last year, today kicks off a new era with the announcement of their forthcoming LP, ‘Laff It Off,’ via Paper Bag Records. To commemorate the announcement of their new record, Pony Girl have additionally shared the record’s first single and title track, ‘Laff It Off,’ along with an accompanying music video.
As the band wrote of the track: “‘Laff It Off’ is air to the grind’s fire, a balloon lift above and beyond the 9-to-5. It’s brushing off the heaviness of labour and floating on through a pseudo-Talking Heads chorus that’s so simple yet true. We first wrote, ‘I don’t wanna be working every day,’ as a lark, but ultimately fell for it as a chant to get through the next shift.”
Pony Girl is a kaleidoscope of pop unlike any other, turning everyday life into mesmerizing melodies, rock and electronic production. In true indie fashion, the Ottawa-Hull collective self-released their first two records (‘Show Me Your Fears’ in 2013, and ‘Foreign Life’ in 2015) before signing with Paper Bag Records to unveil ‘Enny One Wil Love You’ in 2022. ‘Laff It Off’ will take to the skies this fall.
