‘Noctis’ by Already Late
Exclusive track premiere of ‘Noctis’ by Already Late.
Imagine that you could listen to all the styles and genres of music you love on one record. Every song sounds a little bit different, but yet they all feel connected. Enter NY’s Already Late – a band that takes every opportunity to switch gears.
Made up of drummer & vocalist B-Stixx and guitarist, vocalist Johnnie Noct (oh, and both of them play ukulele too), Already Late channels the internet era into genre-blurring songs that are equal parts groovy and moshable. Each track is like an auditory kaleidoscope – tilt your head to the side or rotate the speaker slightly and you’ll hear something different. Singing in both English and Japanese, these two intrepid musicians find a way to let their minds take them wherever they’d like to go sonically.
’Noctis,’ their newest single, blends crashing cymbals with flow-infused vocal melodies. It’s almost pop-punk, but not quite. It’s almost rap, but no, it’s not that either. Already Late are progressing past the need to belong to any genre. While this newest song leans on the punk inclinations in their writing, the hook-y chorus could find a home on a charting pop song. On their 2021 album ’Little Kid Dreams,’ the band explored the idea of being young and having fun. ’Noctis’ is about taking those good memories with you into adulthood. Not forgetting, but moving forward.
If your daily mix has gotten stale, you need to check out Already Late. Each song is a world to its own, as big riffy rockers coexist with shuffling ballads. This is a band that has maybe figured out the secret to life: just make whatever you want to make. I think we could all use a little infusion of that attitude in our lives.
