‘God’s Going Away’ by The Mortal Prophets | New Album, ‘Dealey Plaza Blues’

Exclusive track premiere of ‘God’s Going Away’ by The Mortal Prophets, taken from the latest album ‘Dealey Plaza Blues,’ out July 28th.

NYC experimental rock outfit The Mortal Prophets (helmed by John Beckmann) shares their sophomore LP, ‘Dealey Plaza Blues,’ composed of part-original tracks and part-psychotronica reimaginings of classic rock and blues staples, produced with Alexander Krispin (a protégé of Daniel Langois). Preceded by singles ‘Dealey Plaza Blues’ (with an accompanying video directed by Michele Civetta), ‘Born Under a Bad Sign,’ and ‘Down On Me,’ the record is additionally celebrated today with focus track ‘God’s Going Away’.

As Beckmann wrote on both the full LP and its focus track: “I’m delighted to release my second album ‘Dealey Plaza Blues’. It was a very challenging album to make, as we hit on every imaginable delay in the one year it took to produce it with Alexander Krispin. But it was well worth it, and I hope listeners enjoy it.

This album features my first three original songs, with seven completely reimagined covers, which I’m calling – “psychotronica blues.” ‘God’s Going Away’ is about God waking up early one morning, taking a train and going away for the weekend, and basically throwing in the towel, and leaving everything up to you and me, never to return. The music emerges from a dark swampy haze of electronica.”

Last year, The Mortal Prophets shared their debut LP, ‘Me and the Devil,’ on which Beckmann joined forces with Irish musician and producer William Declan Lucey (Rubyhorse, Leftbank) to develop the record’s atmospheric, noisy sound. Additionally, it features collaborations with Morphine’s Dana Colley, vocalist Aoibheann Carey-Philpott, and more. Previously, The Mortal Prophets dropped an EP entitled ‘Stomp the Devil,’ produced by David Sisko and featuring collaborations with Gary Lucas (Captain Beefheart).
