The Kingsnakes – ‘Live At The Old Waldorf June 5, 1981’

Recorded in the era of punk and heavy metal, this live album proves that Kingsnakes were the real deal in the 80s.

This wild rock and roll party was recorded on June 5th, 1981 in Legendary Old Waldorf venue in San Francisco owned by famous music promoter Bill Graham when the band opened for Robert Gordon.

Thing about Kingsnakes is not that they just played well or dressed well, but they were a 100% dangerous rock ‘n’ roll act. They combined rock ‘n’ roll roots with a tough attitude and excellent performance. Not many bands in that period left true to their original sound and played rock ‘n’ roll like this. Band’s uncompromising frontman, great singer and fantastic guitarist, Daniel Jeanrenaud (who would later become London’s legend as “Camden Cat” playing with numerous famous acts) carries the show backed up by Ze Moita (bass), Carl Malinowski (guitar) and ex-Flamin’ Groovies veterans James Farrell (guitar) and Danny Mihm (drums).

This show explodes with their famous ‘Rock N Roll House’ followed by a set of their hits and some cover songs. Footstompin’ music all along this album starts with the aforementioned number and is followed by a set of their hits and some cover songs, including Little Walter’s ‘My Babe,’ Chuck Berry’s ‘You Never Can Tell’ and ‘No Particular Place To Go’ among others. Party ends with the band’s notable San Francisco hymn ‘Good Rocking City’.

Few months after this show The Kingsnakes played several shows as backup band for Chuck Berry, performing with him in this same venue. This live album proves the band’s legacy that lasts for over four decades. Two bonuses on the album are ‘Get Up’ from Daniel Jeanrenaud’s debut album from 2011 and Kingsnakes single ‘More’ released in 1988.
