‘Through Dimensions’ by School Disco | New Album, ‘Denton Rock’

Exclusive video premiere of ‘Through Dimensions’ by School Disco, taken from the latest album, ‘Denton Rock,’ out via Copper Feast Records and Krautpop! Records.

Having supported the likes of Wolf Alice, Froth, Lime Garden and Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Brighton based genre bending psych-post-punk rockers School Disco are back with the new album ‘Denton Rock’. Formed in 2016 in Brighton via Plymouth, the band take influence from the likes of Black Sabbath and CAN, while taking inspiration from sci-fi literature and H.P. Lovecraft alike. Adding to their already colourful and brazen discography, School Disco have recently released ‘Denton Rock’. It was recorded at Sour Grapes Records in Denton, Manchester.

‘’Denton Rock’ is an album I’m super proud of, with a whole new line-up we really got into a groove playing new songs and reimagining old ones live. We booked out a studio in Manchester that our friends have and we managed to get down 90% of the album in three days. We all really hit a groove and it was such a fun creative process with everyone down to get experimental and use the studios as a big playground. Some songs we had mastered before the studio, and some songs we finished in the studio by playing around and jamming in a similar fashion to what we do live. I also reached out to a few friends and guests that really elevate the album with their contributions – Eva Lunny on harp adds such depth and Brennan Harvey’s Alto Sax on Crying Beasts adds more for me than any guitar would. I feel we really took the DIY aesthetic that our first two albums have and elevated it further” – Rory

Focussing largely on how the government has failed a generation, ‘Denton Rock’ touches on environmentalism, the struggles of the working class and more. Politically relevant and in-touch, ‘Denton Rock’ is very much a call to arms from an abandoned generation and stands as a voice for thousands. The record, as a complete body, boasts School Disco’s most successful, and well-received body of work to date. Unique, fun, and compelling whilst retaining the exhilarating energy of their live shows, the album represents how the band have honed their craft over the last few years of gigging.

“This album has some quite strong political feelings in it, having been written over the past couple of years and over a period where we have had a number of terrible prime ministers and ironically no change to the regime. They almost feel like mythical beasts to me in a number of ways. A larger-than-life caricature. They have a disregard for anyone but themselves and a general lack of awareness of others. I feel they have failed us in so many ways whether it be LGBTQ+ issues, Environmental issues, immigration, helping the working-class people, asylum seekers, cost of living crisis, heating and more” – Rory

‘Denton Rock’ is out now and is available to download via Bandcamp and Copper Feast Records’ Webstore. The album is also available digitally, on vinyl & on CD via Copper Feast Records and Krautpop! Records.
