‘UBQ’ by Nidoja | Album Premiere

Exclusive album premiere of ‘UBQ’ by Nidoja, out March 16 on Angapp Music.

The latest mystical odyssey from Nidoja’s experimental world endeavor emerges from a collaborative effort between five musicians from Italy and Sweden. This project combines cello, percussion, Middle Eastern string instruments, wind instruments, and electronics. Titled ‘UBQ,’ this album, set to release on March 16 via Angapp Music, urges the imagination toward a vision of a more cohesive and all-encompassing human society.

‘UBQ,’ in addition to serving as the album’s title, also represents the moniker of Nidoja’s fresh ensemble, dubbed the Underwater Bell Quintet. The album comprises six tracks, each serving as an anthem, protest, or poignant cry of humanity:

‘Underwater Bell’: Symbolizing silenced ideas and unheard voices, this piece underscores the power of music to evoke deep emotions and celebrates the courage to express oneself.

‘Whakapapa’: Meaning “the beginning of all things” in Maori culture, this track explores the ancestral lineage of all living beings, including minerals, believed to originate from the mountains.

‘Mahsa’: Dedicated to Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian woman who tragically lost her life due to non-compliance with oppressive laws, this song stands as a protest against the infringement of women’s freedoms.

‘Deep Drops of Silence’: Amidst a profound silence, the rhythmic interplay of cello, trumpet, and electronics echoes like drops of water, resonating with depth and resonance.

‘Follow the Trees to the Ocean’: Reflecting on the beauty of nature and addressing climate concerns, this track emphasizes the enduring inspiration provided by the natural world throughout history.

‘Taken by the Sun and the Wind’: Serving as a rallying cry for all individuals steadfast in their pursuit of dreams, this song offers encouragement never to relent in the face of adversity.
Positioned within the article, this breakdown elucidates the thematic essence and significance of each track, inviting readers into the profound narrative woven by Nidoja’s latest musical endeavor.

Over time, Nidoja has fostered collaborations with musicians spanning the globe. Their most recent endeavor, ‘UBQ’ (Underwater Bell Quintet), sees the duo joined by three additional talents: Eric Forsmark, percussionist, composer, and co-founder of the international “101 Flames of Inspiration” initiative, which united 101 musicians worldwide; Nicola Nesta, proficient in oud, baglama, and Afghan robab; and Giuliano Di Cesare, adept in trumpet, transverse flute, and soprano saxophone. With the introduction of the UBQ lineup, Nidoja’s compositions resonate with newfound depth and breadth—an auditory voyage that resonates with the captivating melodies of distant lands. This experimental fusion of World Music transcends cultural boundaries, compelling the mind to envision a world of unity and inclusivity.

Formed in 2005, the duo Nidoja emerged from the dynamic and exploratory collaboration between Nicoletta D’Auria, wielding the cello, and Domenico Monaco, whose expertise lies in electronics and percussion. Throughout their career, their musical exploration organically gravitated towards Mediterranean influences, deeply rooted in the realm of World Music. Predominantly composed by the cellist and imbued with electronic arrangements, their music generates a profound mystical essence—an almost primal resonance that traverses continents, encapsulates contemporary settings, satisfies cultural curiosity, and yearns for the comprehension of the unknown.
