‘If I Could Read My Mind’ by JD Pinkus | New Album, ‘Grow A Pear’
JD Pinkus debuts his LP, ‘Grow a Pair,’ via Shimmy-Disc, alongside his introspective third single, ‘If I Could Read My Mind,’ exploring the perpetual search for home.
The music video, shot in timeless Super 8 style by renowned photographer and cinematographer Hunter Barnes, complements the captivating instrumentation, featuring a catchy banjo hook and the steady plucking of an upright bass. Pinkus is seen traversing country roads with a rucksack slung over his shoulder, setting the scene for the song’s essence.
Renowned for his contributions to Butthole Surfers and The Melvins, JD Pinkus unveils his latest LP, ‘Grow A Pear.’ Following his 2021 album, ‘Fungus Shui,’ this new release comprises 12 dynamic tracks that expand Pinkus’s psychedelic realm, blending punk, psych rock, and banjo-infused folk.
Reflecting on the album, Pinkus shares, “‘Grow A Pear’ has been a five-year journey. Originating as my contributions to the unreleased Butthole Surfers’ album, it evolved into a solo endeavor featuring collaborations with my favorite musicians. This album truly encapsulates my roots while paving the way for my current musical direction. My hope for the future is that everyone will finally ‘Grow A Pear.'”
He adds, “A ‘Pear’ of albums on one vinyl—a fusion of heavy psychedelia, drum and bass grooves, lively boogie, infectious melodies, and dashes of horns, keys, and strings. It’s like a genre-blending tapestry catering to all tastes. ‘Grow A Pear’ offers something for everyone and nothing for no one—guaranteed!”
‘Grow A Pear’ is available now via Shimmy-Disc. Pinkus will join Melvins leader King Buzzo and Mr. Bungle’s Trevor Dunn for a co-headlining tour later this summer.
