‘C093542’ by Glass Noose | New Album, ‘Glazz Nooze’
The exclusive track premiere of ‘C093542’ by Glass Noose is taken from the upcoming album, ‘Glazz Nooze,’ slated for release on August 23, 2024.
Tristan Zemtseff of Glass Noose wrote, recorded, and produced their fourth album, ‘Glazz Nooze.’ Musically timeless and spiritually focused, it draws from avant-rock influences like Death, Bad Brains, King Crimson, and King’s X, with a fresh emo-math twist. Originally from Chicago and later Seattle (with a stint in Tokyo), Tristan now brings their experimental, emotionally charged rock to Pittsburgh.
Glass Noose began as Tristan’s solo project, evolving through various lineups in Chicago and Seattle. The current band features Tristan on vocals and drums, with Andrea Holther-Cruz on keys and vocals.
When asked about ‘C093542,’ he shared: “The band calls it C3PO and I can’t really blame them, but this song is about a 2022 California court case (Almond Alliance of California v. California Department of Fish and Wildlife, No. C093542) that determined bees can considered fish in order to protect them under the California Endangered Species Act. Since insects are not covered by the act’s definition of “species” for whatever reason, they decided that the best way to protect bees under this act was to classify them as fish, rather than alter the act to include insects. I use it as a metaphor for society’s reluctance to change any of the systems that are in place. Instead, the powers that be consistently take the path of least resistance in an attempt to satisfy the general public by showing them that something is happening while enacting as little genuine change as they can get away with (see: Obamacare instead of a ground-up reinvention of the American healthcare system, the back-and-forth about limitations on assault weapons and what is defined as one, etc.).”
Since 2017, Glass Noose has released six EPs, four singles, three albums, and one live album. The new record is their longest yet, showcasing the band’s full range across genres. Recorded in two small Seattle apartments, the album explores themes of self-perception, personal struggles, and societal critiques.
Glass Noose was contemporaries with Black Ends and Zookraught while in Seattle. “Big picture, I look up to bands like Delta Sleep, tricot, Soul Glo, and Karnivool, to name a few,” they say. Their dream tour would include “playing out with bands like Delta Sleep, tricot, Textures, Agent Fresco, Oceansize (should they ever reunite), really any band that I’ve taken a lot of influence from or would fanboygirl over.”
