Curling Drops New Stereo Single ‘Radio King / Mallow’ Ahead of Japan Tour This October
Exclusive video premiere of ‘Radio King’ by San Francisco Bay Area’s indie rock band Curling, slated for release on September 13th, 2024, via Royal Oakie Records.
These fresh stereo versions reimagine two tracks from the band’s 2018 debut album ‘Definitely Band,’ which was originally released in mono. This release is a celebration of the record’s 6th anniversary, a fitting homage to the band’s evolution, and coincides with an exciting Japan tour later this year.
Fans of Curling can expect something special with these new mixes. According to Curling’s core members, Joseph Brandel and Bernie Gelman, the tracks are not just stereo adaptations of the original mono mixes. “We’ve rebuilt the songs from the ground up,” the duo shared. “These new stereo mixes are complete re-imaginings of the songs.”
The A-side, ‘Radio King,’ holds a unique significance beyond the music itself. As Royal Oakie Records’ David Glasebrook explains, the song is named after the legendary snare drum that helped shape its sound—a Radio King snare drum, renowned for its solid maple shell and distinctive tone. Adding to the track’s richness is Jonah Levine on trombone, bringing an extra layer of texture.
In addition to the single release, Curling has planned an international adventure with a string of shows in Japan this October. They’ll kick off their tour at Shimokitazawa Livehaus in Tokyo on October 16th, with more dates at iconic venues like Namba Bears and Shindaita Fever. For Bay Area fans, Curling will play a hometown show at San Francisco’s Make Out Room on September 22nd, right before they embark on their overseas journey.
The single is produced by Bernie Gelman and Joseph Brandel and mixed by Ian Pellicci at Brother’s Recording in Oakland, CA. Keep an ear out for the stereo versions of ‘Radio King’ and ‘Mallow’—Curling’s unique blend of sonic experimentation and indie charm is sure to resonate on a whole new level.
