‘Pray To The Unknown’ by Bird Call | New EP, ‘The Life Is Extraordinary’
Exclusive video premiere of ‘Pray To The Unknown’ by Bird Call, taken from the latest EP, ‘The Life Is Extraordinary,’ out now.
For nearly twenty years, Bird Call, the project of Guatemalan/Italian artist Chiara Angelicola, has captivated fans and critics alike with her avant-garde art pop. Raised in Mill Valley, CA, Angelicola’s musical foundation was shaped by her mother, who trained her in jazz piano and vocals during her youth. After self-releasing four records, she signed with Zap Records in 2013, releasing ‘Will We Get to Mars?,’ which earned acclaim for its cinematic synth-driven sound.
About the premiering single Chiara says, “‘Pray to the Unknown’ is an uplifting story for me about the triumphs I’ve experienced in the past five years. After recovering from OCD, experiencing post partum depression after giving birth to my daughter in 2022, and creating this new record, I want to celebrate the strength and community it takes to become an embodied creative woman after birth and through motherhood. There’s so much about parenting that no one advocates for on a systemic level, especially post partum care, often leading so many women to feel a sense of isolation and many to severe complications. The video for Pray to the Unknown is my ode to all mother figures and I aim to shed light on pressing data most people don’t know about the 18 plus months after giving birth, what happens to the woman’s psyche, body, and spirit. It’s the most miraculous and psychedelic experience I’ve ever had and ultimately I could not have walked through it successfully without the patchwork support of other mother figures, family, and friends in my life.”
Known for her evolving style, Angelicola’s punchy lyrics and impassioned voice have made her a standout in the indie scene, sharing stages with artists like Angel Olsen and Majical Cloudz. With 11 records to her name, Bird Call’s music has been featured on major streaming platforms, including Hulu, Netflix, and HBO/Max.
