‘Bordel’ by Mortòri | New EP, ‘A Mort L’ Amur’
Swiss producer and musician Aris Bassetti, best known for his work with Peter Kernel, has launched a new solo project under the name Mortòri, debuting with the single ‘Bordel.’
This release sets the stage for his upcoming EP, ‘A Mort L’ Amur’ (translated as “Death to Love”), due on Valentine’s Day 2025 via On the Camper Records. Embracing his roots, Bassetti sings in the fading Ticino dialect, offering a fresh sound grounded in a nearly forgotten linguistic tradition.
‘Bordel’ introduces Mortòri’s distinctive style—an introspective and raw Swiss Italian crooner, whose voice carries a sense of timeless longing. The track unfolds a tale of a love that could not withstand the pull of inner demons, leaving the protagonist’s partner to choose chaos over their connection. The lyrics capture the heartbreak of his failed attempts to reconnect, with a plea for a friend to remind her to “look at the stars,” or at the very least, to draw them where she now gazes downward. It’s a haunting symbol of hope amidst despair, a gesture that suggests healing can come from even the smallest acts of remembrance.
Mortòri was conceived in 2023, as Bassetti sought to delve into the darker, more complex emotions tied to love, channeling these into songs that challenge traditional musical boundaries. By choosing to sing in the Ticino dialect, he brings a deeply personal, almost urgent feel to the project, blending avant-garde experimentation with a rich cultural heritage that risks disappearing with time.
The recording of ‘Bordel’ reflects Bassetti’s meticulous approach to his craft. The song was written, performed, and recorded at his own La Tessinoise studio in Arbedo, Switzerland, with mixing handled by Enea Ponzio at Bynd Studios in Sementina, and mastering completed by Andrea De Bernardi at Eleven Mastering in Varese, Italy. This release marks the beginning of a poignant new chapter for Bassetti—one where intimate storytelling and a preservation of linguistic heritage come together to create something truly unique.
