‘Pretend to Be a Dog (Gamelle)’ by Stuffed Foxes | New Album, ‘Standardized’
Exclusive video premiere of ‘Pretend to Be a Dog (Gamelle)’ by Stuffed Foxes, from their upcoming album ‘Standardized,’ set for release on December 6th, 2024, via Bristol’s Stolen Body Records, along with French labels Reverse Tapes and Figures Libres.
French post-psych and deep-shoegaze alchemists Stuffed Foxes are gearing up to drop ‘Standardized’ on December 6th, 2024, via Stolen Body Records and a gang of French labels – Reverse Tapes and Figures Libres. This marks the trio’s third LP, and as expected, it promises to break the rules and take their sound to new depths.
Their 2022 diptych, ‘Songs / Revolving’ and ‘Songs / Motion Return,’ marked them as one of the most magnetic forces in the underground, but ‘Standardized’ takes things to a darker, more expansive place. Recorded live in Rennes at Thomas Poli’s (Laetitia Sheriff, Dominique A) studio, the LP’s energy is punched up by Matt Colton’s (Spiritualized, Swans) mastering. It’s got all the hallmarks of a band finding their true voice.
Born from six wild souls, Stuffed Foxes were never about the business – they built their empire on collective energy, long jams, and a fiercely democratic approach to songwriting. Their music? A slow burn of hypnotic noise and urgent vocal peaks. It’s a sound born of chaos: the shrieking walls of My Bloody Valentine, the drone-drenched headspace of Swans, and the fuzzy mysticism of Brian Jonestown Massacre, with a healthy dash of Six-By-Seven’s eclectic post-shoegaze swagger. They may be haunted by the ghosts of their predecessors, but they are by no means beholden to them.

We’re stoked to premiere ‘Pretend to Be a Dog (Gamelle),’ a track off ‘Standardized’ that’s a prime example of the band’s sonic evolution. The band shared some thoughts on the track:
“We started jamming this song during a residency in Orléans. The idea was to craft powerful, crashing sound waves interspersed with moments of calm and melody. These bursts were thrilling to play, and the main theme grew richer over time with the six of us contributing to the overall texture. This may be the track we are most proud of, with each of us expressing ourselves and fitting together. For the end of the song, Simon played a raw, noise-driven bassline, and we decided to push it to the forefront in an extreme way, weaving these clear guitar patterns around it.”
With ‘Standardized,’ Stuffed Foxes don’t just elevate their sound – they redefine it, throwing the rulebook out the window and diving headfirst into the thrilling unknown. It’s the sound of a band truly breaking free. Pre-order it here!
