‘Television, a Ghost In My Head’ by Frog Eyes | New Album, ‘The Open Up’

Exclusive track premiere of ‘Television, a Ghost in My Head’ by Vancouver indie-rock greats Frog Eyes, taken from their upcoming album, ‘The Open Up,’ slated for release on March 7th via Paper Bag Records.

Frog Eyes are back with ‘The Open Up,’ their tenth album and second since reuniting in 2021. A band forever orbiting the fringes of the indie-rock universe—too weird for the mainstream, too beloved to disappear—Frog Eyes carve out a space of their own, where heart-on-sleeve songwriting collides with frantic, fever-dream instrumentation.

Tracked live to tape by John Raham, the record pulses with a raw, huffy-puffy urgency: open-ended mid-tempo dreaminess, tangled post-punk tautness, sad and soft love songs—all anchored by Mercer’s spit-sung vocals and electric guitar surges.

There’s an almost ritualistic devotion to the album here, a belief in music as a living, breathing thing, unpolished and deeply felt. Written in tough, ugly years and yet filled with hope, ‘The Open Up’ is a testament to making art on your own terms, in your own time, with your own people.
