Conan Neutron & the Secret Friends Unveil ‘The Way of the Neutron’
Conan Neutron & the Secret Friends are back with their latest album, ‘The Way of the Neutron,’ set to release on March 20th via Seismic Wave Entertainment, but available today exclusively on Psych Baby.
What we have here is an album filled with riffs and social thinking. Leading the charge is ‘Who Dares?,’ a track as menacing as it is motivational. Neutron describes it best: “’Who Dares?’ is a mission statement song. Most attributable to something a super villain would scream as a hero enters the room, this is a song about not just surviving but thriving often against insurmountable odds. One challenge at a time, one step at a time, one punch at time, one round at a time. Featuring a simple guitar hook and a relentless menacing main riff, it is a motivational soundtrack to dogged persistence. Who Dares? I’m the one who dares.”
This new album follows ‘Adult Prom,’ a split LP with LUNG (2023), the three-song ‘Dangerous Nomenclature’ EP (2022), and their last full-length ‘Dark Passengers’ (2020). Over ten years in, with praise from college radio, press, and fans, Neutron and his rotating crew of Secret Friends show no signs of letting up. When asked about the album, Conan Neutron replied, “Endurance, perseverance and an insistence to not just survive, but thrive. That’s what this record is about. Heavy, hooky and uncompromising, this is a better world of rock music, free of re-enactors and imitators, shameless artifice without substance and tired cliche. ‘The Way of the Neutron’ is a built world and an inviting one. Look for the path and find the path. This is the way. Get off your knees and soar.”
Conan Neutron is one guy. Conan Neutron & the Secret Friends is a band, with a rotating lineup that’s featured legends like Dale Crover of the Melvins on drums and Tony Ash of Coliseum on bass. Produced by the elusive Toshi Kasai, their sound blends wiry rock with a mix of Cheap Trick, Fugazi, Queens of the Stone Age, The Cars, and DEVO, all with a punk rock edge. It’s big riffs, big hooks, and plenty of weirdness…
