Exclusive video premiere of ‘Aumba’ by Blueblut, from their latest album ‘Lutebulb,’ out now via Janka Industries.

To mark the release of their new album ‘Lutebulb,’ avant-prog trio Blueblut unveil an outstanding new video for the track ‘Aumba.’ ‘Lutebulb’ is set to drop on Friday, May 3, through Janka Industries, available on LP, CD, and digital download.

Blueblut features a unique combination of musicians renowned for their contributions to experimental jazz, electronica, and rock. This Vienna-based trio—comprised of Pamelia Stickney (theremin, vocals), Chris Janka (guitar, loops, samples), and Mark Holub (drums, vocals, percussion)—has been touring for a decade, creating a distinctive musical blend that draws from a variety of genres including improv, jazz, avant-rock, ska, folk, and Krautrock.

“The song basically grew out of the groove that occupies much of the tune. We were improvising around with different ideas around that groove, like we do with many Blueblut songs, and somehow all these other parts gradually started sticking together. The Bulgarian choir, the quasi schlager song at the end, the fusion-esque guitar/drums fills in the middle. They all just ended up somehow fitting together. With the video, the great filmmaker Angela Christlieb just took the track and ran with it, and we were very happy with the results! Our new album represents a return to the band as a trio. A back to basics – a Blueblut’s “White Album,” or perhaps our “Blue Album”…! ‘Lutebulb’ represents our most “composed” album to date – it’s a journey of us finding a band voice over 10 years working together and compressing that into music.” – Blueblut

Blueblut’s music unfolds like a group of street performers who alternate between energetic playing and thoughtful pauses. Their sudden bursts of energy echo the rhythmic spontaneity of Can’s ‘Spare A Light.’ At other times, they evoke the playful experimentalism of artists like John Zorn and Mr. Bungle, the unconventional groove of Primus, and the diverse melodies of Henry Cow.

Jimi Hendrix is another key influence for the band, not just for his iconic guitar work, but also in their use of the theremin and other creative soundscapes, featuring vibrant hues of purple, green, red, and blue. This approach also carries a hint of Pink Floyd’s ‘Ummagumma.’
