Desintegración Violenta | Interview | “La Bestia”

‘La Bestia’ is a fantastic new 7-inch record by Berlin-based punk metal band Desintegración Violenta, now available on Static Age Musik.

This multinational quartet delivers a furious new EP to vinyl, following their 2021 demo, with five blistering tracks that blend the frenetic energy of punk with the visceral intensity of metal, accompanied by raw Spanish vocals that punctuate each ferocious riff.

“We all have always been into all kinds of metal and hardcore punk”

I’ve been listening to your ‘La Bestia’ 7-inch record. Great stuff. Do you consider this record your real debut, in a way, after the demo recording from 2021?

We don’t consider it a debut because we did plenty of playing around the world with the demo. We toured multiple times and played in countries outside of Germany, and we also contributed songs to various compilations. This EP is just a continuation of all the playing we’ve done as a band.

What’s the difference between a demo (your previous record) and this release? What makes a recording “just a demo,” and what makes a recording “a real release”?

For us, whether it’s a demo, split, EP, or LP, each is a real release. In each release, there are new songs, and it requires a lot of effort. Each release represents an evolution in our sound and in several aspects of the band.

I don’t just like the riffs and the screamy vocals, but also the raw production and the lo-fi sound. So I was wondering: did you record analog? Did you record on tape? Because it sounds like that, but I might be wrong.

Yes, we’ve recorded both releases on an 8-track tape recorder.

Your music reminds me of Black Sabbath and Tormentor. Can you name other influences? What are you listening to right now? What do you listen to the most? Do you think there’s a “retro element” in your music, like a celebration of old-school speed metal and punk?

We all have always been into all kinds of metal and hardcore punk. Our stage names are a nod to that metal spirit and the old times when you used to give yourself “evil” nicknames for your tapes or other places. We probably took inspiration from bands like Anti Cimex, Celtic Frost, G.I.S.M., or GAI for some sounds, riffs, etc.

Desintegración Violenta is an international four-piece.

Although the band is based in Berlin, none of us is German. Sebas is from Colombia, Ursula is from Paris, and David and Per are from Sweden.

Could you explain the band name “Desintegración Violenta”?

The name Desintegración Violenta is an allusion to the violence in Colombia (which continues today), where you could literally be disintegrated or forcibly disappeared by different armed groups during the war, which had its most violent era in the 90s and early 2000s. This violence was carried out by the police, the army, left-wing guerrillas, right-wing paramilitaries, and drug cartels, all vying for control of land and money.

You call what you do “total mayhem.”

That’s just another reference to the band Mayhem, heheh. During shows, it’s a good thing when things end up in total mayhem.

Is Desintegración Violenta part of a Berlin metal or punk scene?

Most of our friends who come to our shows are punks, but we also get some ravers and metalheads. We’re happy with anyone coming to a gig to enjoy the music, share a drink, or just say hi.

How did the four of you get to know each other?

We met through punk networks in 2019, when Sebas traveled to Europe while touring with another band from Colombia. We met again when Sebas decided to move to Berlin in 2020. That’s when we formed the band with our first drummer, Rafa, who doesn’t play with us anymore. He was replaced by another good friend, David.
