Dean & Britta – ‘Don’t Think Twice it’s Alright/Hey Paula’ (2015)
With just two months before the release of Luna’s boxed set, and Britta’s solo album, Dean & Britta deliver this little musical postcard from their own personal side of the galaxie.
The record opens with Britta delivering a Dylan cover, something the two of them did together for their 13 Most Beautiful release … and here, Britta spreads her wings, delivering sultry etherial assured vocals, over which has been laid a melodic pedal steel guitar that just soaks the song with an alternative country flavor. On the flip side we find Dean with Jason Quever [of Papercuts] rescuing an outtake from his solo outing Emancipated Hearts, where he remakes and remodels “Hey Paula,” swooning and swaying the 1962 teen romance ballad with self-confidence, assurance, and soothing delight.
The record cover is from a painting by Brian Calvin, and when I asked Dean if this was his John & Yoko album, he assured me that it was not an image of he and Britta, though in his words, “It certainly could be.”
Limited hand numbered edition of 400.
