‘Martian Leather’ is the newest single from indie-psych band Astrology Now. Equal parts whimsical, doom fairytale and ominous comic book influenced psych-rock heaviness.
Astrology Now is the brainchild of singer, guitarist and songwriter Greg Mastrean. Hailing from Pittsburgh, PA (US), AN began as an analog, lo-fi, bedroom project until the mixing and mastering process related to Astrology Now’s debut (‘Semi-Hollow Review’) introduced producer Nate Campisi to Mastrean’s psychedelic creations. While working together in the studio, Mastrean and Campisi (who also now plays bass in Astrology Now) turned the project into a full-fledged band and have since released a four song EP (‘Knife’) and a single in the autumn of 2020 (‘Floating Eye’).
Astrology Now’s second single of 2020, ‘Martian Leather’, was once again written by Mastrean, but is complimented and enhanced by the full band line-up which currently include Zach Bronder (guitar), Matt Tucsanyi (guitar) and Evan Meindl (drums). ‘Martian Leather’ is equal parts whimsical fairytale and ominous comic-book influenced psych-rock heaviness. While much of Astrology Now’s lyrical output can be left to the imagination of the listener, this tune is Mastrean’s first foray into a trippy, interplanetary narrative.
Astrology Now have begun recording a full-length LP that will be released in 2021 and already have two additional singles that will be released in the upcoming months..
