‘Irish Whiskey’ by Diplomatics
Exclusive premiere of ‘Irish Whiskey’ by Diplomatics.
‘Irish Whiskey’ is the brand new single by Diplomatics, to be released on January 29, 2021 by Slimer Records, recorded by Brown Barcella at the T.U.P. Studio, in order to enhance analog sounds, and mastered by Ric Zambly.
The song will be included on the same day in an EP, including also the previous post-punk single ‘Nevah’, available on limited vinyl edition and all digital platforms. ‘Irish Whiskey’ brings the listener back towards the Italian band’s background, that is a rock, punk and soul background derived from the New York of the 70s but capable of mixing with a crossover attitude various influences such as The Rolling Stones, Stooges, The Who and Feelies. However, the turn towards post-punk territories is shown especially as regards the sung part.
The verses are almost recited, supported by strings in line with both the classic The Replacements and the Paisley Underground scene of Dream Syndicate or Green On Red. The lyrics are very immediate: yes, the reference is to the band’s old habit of drinking a few shots of Irish whiskey before going on stage. Irish Whiskey represents the positivity of catching up with friends with a glass in hand.
The artwork of both the singles and the EP is by the well-known graphic designer Raissa Pardini, living in Glasgow and working for many artists including Idles, The Orielles and Mystery Jets.
Diplomatics have been active since 2013, and have released two full length records. They have played over time several wild shows in Europe, also supporting important bands like Buzzocks, Fleshtones, The Sonics and Giuda.
‘Nevah’ and ‘Irish Whiskey’ define a new way for the band, a more refined compositional and vocal writing and choice of sounds. Without compromising the electric power of Diplomatics.
