Debut EP from Psych Rock Instrumentalist Trigona

From the humid subtropics of southern Queensland, Australia, comes the debut EP from psych rock instrumentalist Trigona.

Trigona is Rob Shiels, a one-man recording project that began in early 2020. Over the last 18 months, Rob has recorded hours of songs and jams in his home studio, like so many others using his pandemic-enforced isolation to create music as a means of escape.

Recorded between 2020-2021 at Branch Line Studios, the EP starts with the motorik beat-inspired Von Graf and from there progresses through an expansive soundscape aided by lots of fuzz, delays, phasers and tremolo.

While heavy on effects, melody is not lacking on these instrumental tracks, which are driven first and foremost by lead guitar and infused with reverb-laden rhythm guitars.

The EP ends with its longest track (7:50), the sitar-infused Rosatom, inspired in part by the more psychedelic alternative rock bands of the 1990s. With a prolific level of recordings produced in the last year, there will no doubt be further Trigona releases to come.
