Hot Garbage at Hear Here Presents | “Psychedelic blend of garage and krautrock”
Back in October of 2019, Toronto-based Hot Garbage brought their psychedelic blend of garage and krautrock to Hear Here Studios for a high-energy live session that buzzed the walls of the old Milwaukee warehouse.
Juliana Carlevaris’ driving bass and Alessandro Carlevaris’ swarming fuzz guitar set the pulse for the set, along with rock solid drums from Mark Henein and swirling psychedelia from keyboardist Dylan Gamble. In a mere 8 minutes, the band traversed uncharted sonic territories that left listeners grasping for more. And those listeners are in luck… because word on the street is there’s a new Hot Garbage record in the oven.
Juliana Carlevaris (bass/vox) had this to say about the experience: “I met Ryan Holman (founder and producer of Hear Here Presents) at Milwaukee Psych Fest, and somehow over the ringing in our ears following Acid Mothers Temple’s ninety-minute set we managed to exchange words. Later that year, we rolled through the amazing warehouse space that serves as Hear Here HQ. Everything was really well thought out from the art direction to the format of the shoot to the very pro a/v crew. You couldn’t really ask for a better experience. We always meet the sweetest people in Milwaukee and it’s always a good vibe.”
See for yourself:
Toronto based group Hot Garbage have quickly made an impression with their dynamic sound and captivating live performances alongside artists such as Ty Segall, Wand, Kikagaku Moyo, L.A. Witch, Dead Meadow, and JJUUJJUU. They have been featured in several festivals including Levitation, Sled Island, SXSW, NXNE, Night Owl Festival, River & Sky, Pop Montreal, Canadian Music Week, and New Colossus. In November 2017, Hot Garbage self-released ‘Max Blonda’, an EP displaying an innovative approach to early-Floyd-era classic psychedelia with heavy guitar tones and swirling organ swells. They toured the U.S. in 2018 including dates with L.A. Witch and a slot at Levitation in Austin, TX. The band’s second EP ‘Coco’s Paradise’ was self-released in April 2019. The EP sees the band refining the character of Max Blonda, blending the hypnotic rhythms of krautrock with the psychedelic textures of their previous work. In late 2019, the band went into the studio with Juno-nominated producer Graham Walsh of Holy Fuck. They released a single from these recordings, ‘Easy Believer’, in spring 2020.
