Out Oi
Since July last year, Out Oi released ten albums and about 150 YouTube clips of mainly improvised solo electric guitar.
Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
Omar Gebruers: I’m 11 years old. I was born on May 12, 2010. I will proceed to fifth grade, primary school. I live in Destelbergen, a village nearby Ghent.
When did you start playing guitar?
When I turned 10. During lockdown, I started listening to a lot of music that contained guitar.
Why did you chose for a guitar?
From the age of 8, I played the clarinet until I got a guitar from my uncle Jelle Gebruers.
Why do you play electric guitar?
Because I was given an electric guitar and not an acoustic one.
Which music inspires you?
Deerhoof and Nels Cline. But mostly I experiment by myself. My father Seppe taught me some tricks and of course my guitar teacher Mathias Van de Wiele helped me a lot.
Why did you release ten albums in one year?
Mainly because I improvise my songs, which takes less time than composing.
Why do you self-release your music?
It can take a long time to release an album, if I do it by myself I can decide how much time I need.
Why do you mainly release your music on YouTube?
Because it is not difficult to create a channel on YouTube and everyone knows how it works.
