“‘Nanette’ is an excursion in a haunted landscape, an externalized emotional labyrinth where a lone figure – in an endless loop – replays her own private torment. In this liminal space between night and day, a strange country both wild and familiar, she wanders around, looking for a sign, a key of some sort.

Julia Daigle, co-founder of the band Paupière, discovered and took up composing in 2013 when Pierre-Luc Bégin offered her to put her lyrics on one of their compositions. An experience that led to the creation of ‘Jeunes Instants’ (EP 2015), ‘À jamais privé de réponse’ (LP 2017), ‘Jettatura’ (EP 2018) and ‘Sade Sati’ (2021). Having practiced classical and contemporary dance during her childhood, performing comes naturally to Julia. Throughout her artistic journey, she met the director Dominic Vanchensteing, (Bernardino Femminielli, Jeff and the holograms, Plaza Musique), with whom she engaged in a parallel adventure. Together they created a bucolic and elegant universe, which evokes a resemblance to the progressive Quebecois band Contraction, as well as medieval and folk inspirations from Kate Bush, Serge Gainsbourg, Robert Wyatt. They combined contemporary pop with the echoes of a music venue from the depths of time. From their union the EP ‘Le coin plié’ was born along with the sumptuous album ‘Un singe sur l’épaule’ being recently released in November 2021 via Lisbon Lux Records.
