‘Prison Song’ by Lolita Terrorist Sounds featuring Kristof Hahn (Swans)

Exclusive video premiere of ‘Prison Song’ by Berlin-based avant-garde band founded by Maurizio Vitale, Lolita Terrorist Sounds featuring Kristof Hahn (Swans).

Berlin-based band Lolita Terrorist Sounds breaks the silence with their first studio release ‘Prison Song’, featuring Swans lap steel guitar legend, Kristof Hahn. A captivating new music video featuring bandleader/founder Maurizio Vitale as an androgyne tormented character imprisoned in a dark cell.

‘Prison Song’ was written during a short trip to Paris, inspired by an epistolary exchange between two tormented lovers split apart by a jail sentence. Following the 70s and 80s Post-Punk DIY attitude, Lolita Terrorist Sounds’ studio debut is a raw and edgy soundtrack to many a sleepless night. ‘Prison Song’ transports the listener into a sonic vortex with its three and half minutes of hypnotic bass lines, insistent drumming, and energetic thrusting. The lyrics evoke the romantic ghosts of the French capital, echoing the poetic inherit-age of Baudelaire and Rimbaud – but it could also almost be a secret outtake from the seminal NYC band Suicide’s debut album, this time armed with dissonant and abrasive lap steel guitar courtesy of Kristof Hahn.

“It reminds me of the best post-punk bands from the 70s…hotter than a frying pan, sharper than a razor…” – Kristof Hahn (Swans, Pere Ubu)

Lolita Terrorist Sounds by Nicole Dargé

Recorded in a former East Berlin haunted building used by the secret services during Wall time, the studio debut of Lolita Terrorist Sounds was produced by band leader Maurizio Vitale adopting an esoteric approach towards the music. He explains: “I used a limited amount of old microphones and analog gear to capture and preserve the instinctive roughness of the music. It was more about capturing the magic of the moment and the historical place where the songs were conceived rather than making a polished record.”

The video clip was shot on a faulty VHS camera to capture the raw and unsettling nature of the music.
