Exclusive track premiere of ‘Into The Light’ by Weeed, taken from the upcoming album, ‘Green Roses Vol. 1’, out May 11th via Halfshell Records and Six Tonnes De Chair Records.

‘Green Roses Vol. 1’ is the first of two albums written, rehearsed, and put to tape primarily within a five-day period during the month of June, 2021, in the small seaside hamlet of Hansville, WA. The initial and abiding intention behind these albums was something of a requiem, a way to honor and memorialize the respective mothers of John and Mitch, both of whom passed away shortly before the recording session took place, both of whom were named Rose.

Using new and familiar instruments (harmonium, marimba, and fiddle make appearances), tunings (microtonals), and feelings (acute grief, euphoria, and loss), these songs are yet another token of Weeed’s commitment to collaboration and improvisation as a mode of psychic healing.

Sonically, the music reflects once again the band’s ever-deepening pursuit of aesthetic departure from previous efforts, though those familiar with Weeed’s evolution may note with ‘Green Roses Vol. 1’ and ‘2’ that they seem to have found a momentary resting place somewhere within a pastoral, eclectic, and occasionally heavy folk register. And yet, at core, the songs offered here are less an exploration of genre than a stripped-down rumination on the transitory.
