‘The Boom’ by Terry Ohms | New Album, ‘Shmo Yertyr’

Exclusive video premiere of ‘The Boom’ by Birmingham, AL psych-rock Terry Ohms, taken from the upcoming album, ‘Shmo Yertyr’, out April 22nd via Cornelius Chapel’s new imprint Mind Blow Records.

‘Shmo Yertyr’ is Terry Ohms’ newest LP of a 20-plus-year history releasing albums that have an amusing multiple personality, including but not limited to, indie rockers, Americana clamors, and electronic slammers with light and dark and crazy sneaking through the windows of this weirdly accessible artist. “Oh OK, I got it. This is some wacky guy with a keyboard and a computer that throws in ironic country licks where they shouldn’t be”. Nope. These are heartfelt songs presented and sung in an interesting way. Not really a country at all. Southern? Yes. That’s where it comes from. How could it not be? It’s fun, but not in a cut-off jeans kind of way. It’s more like the fun you’d have in a tutu and a trucker hat. You might dance. You might cry. You might laugh. You might freak out.

“I just want ‘The Boom’ to be played in the highlight reel after a K.O. in a boxing match or during a professional wrestler’s walkout. It’s just a fun song about somebody getting what they probably had coming. But, you know, they have a good attitude about it. Like they’re glad it happened and recognize they’re better for it. A tip of a cap to a well-deserved and delivered comeuppance”.

“The video was fun to make and ended up pretty weird and wild. I love sci-fi, especially the deep space stuff. I found some free aliens online and just went to town with them and a green screen and Final Cut. I think my character, Darth Trohms, ended up looking like a mix of Darth Maul and Emperor Palpatine. (This is the second otherworldly video I’ve made for one of my songs: see the ‘Through A Glass’ video from my last album). Anyway, the boom gets lowered on the aliens and they’re running for their lives, but I’m hopeful that if they ever do arrive, things will go much better than whatever this video is. I guess you’d call this impressionist-low-fi sci-fi.”

Terry Ohms’ new LP ‘Shmo Yertyr’ is out April 22nd via Mind Blow Records. His new single ‘The Boom’ will be available on DSPs Friday March 11th.
