‘Magazines / Shakes’ by Moskitos | New EP, ‘Adieu Or Die’
Exclusive video premiere of ‘Magazines / Shakes’ by Cape Town psych rock outfit, Moskitos.
Moskitos releases the single ‘Magazines / Shakes’ to follow an EP, ‘Adieu Or Die’ released earlier in 2022.
Moskitos create their own blend of propulsive psychedelic garage rock and roll and their latest single ‘Magazines / Shakes’ is a rollercoaster medley that showcases the visceral, psyched-out live energy of the band. The two tracks that make up this single are meant to go together. ‘Magazines’ surges into ‘Shakes’ with a locked-in, fast-paced groove, expanding into an array of guitar riffs and soloing riding on the rhythmic framework. The overall lyrical concept is mind control, and specifically the ominous threat that is modern media.
The music video follows a narrative of Pieter being followed by an ominous figure played by Hans Van Vuren. The ominous figure always following close behind serves as a metaphor for modern media and how its influence on one is inescapable in this day and age.
The video also features Moskitos playing live in Cape Town with a liquid light show backdrop created by The Glue Factory Collective. The video was filmed and edited by Hough Maritz and Christiaan Jonck.
