‘WAR’ by Beach Bums | New Album, ‘Overcast’
Today, Los Angeles punks Beach Bums have shared a brand new single entitled ‘WAR’, taken off their forthcoming album, ‘Overcast’, out August 16 via Lolipop Records.
From one of Southern California’s most exciting bands… Beach Bums (aka BEACHxBUMS!) are a young genre defying band that plays with everything from 808s, auto tune, real and programmed drums, metal and indie guitar, and so much more. The result is a group you just can’t pin down. Their style is self described as “MYCORE”.
“This single, ‘WAR’, is a candle provided by god to help light the way through the dark, secretive, and extremely personal journeys that we continue to face (and/or may later face) in our lives. I hope this song leads you to the ashes of all your wars”.
BEACHxBUMS! has created a huge catalog of crossover music that their following keeps coming back for. Fans of all genres travel from everywhere to experience the insanity of their live shows. Imagine fans stage diving off roofs… a person blowing fire out of their mouth on stage… hundreds of people moshing in unison…. These are only a few phrases to describe a Beach Bums experience.
The group has set out to expand their idea of what “MYCORE” can be in 2022. Members Jawntang, Elijah, & Joe ditched being a 3 piece unit and added friends to broaden their sound. Their newest record includes Loverboyrando and Paul, making them a 5 piece for this upcoming chapter of Beach Bums.
You have described your music as “Mycore”, how would you define your sound?
Mycore is just being yourself. We don’t tie our sound down to one style or genre. Our sound is a product of whatever we feel like making at the moment.
Tell us how ‘WAR’ came about?
One day we were jamming in our usual rehearsal room. Rando came to me (Jawntang) with a drum and guitar loop he had made on GarageBand. I uploaded the stems to FL and rearranged it a bit for us to track vocals on. He came up with the hook and I freestyled the verse. Shortly after we finished tracking, Joe added his solo and Eli threw on bass. Rest is history.
Your upcoming album, ‘Overcast’ will be out any day now. Are you excited about it?
Definitely. We’re always excited to share new stuff with our supporters.
Can you share some further words on how you worked on it and how long did it take to gather all the material?
We didn’t overthink it. The whole song was finished in one afternoon. Once Randolph and I recorded our vocals, we let Joe and Eli jam to it for a little while. Everything was tracked and generally mixed in one day. I took the stems to Pro Tools for a following session to clean up the mix but other than that, it was quick.
Are you excited about the upcoming touring dates?
We’re excited! We haven’t played in most of these cities so it’ll be fun raging with people who haven’t seen us live yet.
I guess you’re a kind of band that must be experienced live?
No doubt. Our shows are known for everyone raging and having a good time. If you came in not knowing who we were, you’ll definitely leave and never forget us.
