‘End of a Season’ by Jules Smith | “Sun-drenched psychedelic-acid-folk freakout”
Exclusive track premiere of ‘End of a Season’ by London-based multi-instrumentalist Jules Smith, out September 15th via Strong Island Recordings.
Jules Smith is also part of psychedelic-sextet Baby Vanga and has returned with another solo outing, being the acid forest-folk, psych-pop enchantment that is ‘End of a Season’.
Combining the more serene-natured sounds of Babe Rainbow and King Gizzard & The Lizard’s ‘Paper Mâché Balloon Dream’ – along with the post-Pink Floyd acoustic sounds of Syd Barrett and the sunshine-pop of Margo Guryan, ‘End of a Season’ is a glorious benediction from the sun-spirits themselves.
Jules Smith’s minimalist approach to the pastoral flute-laden freakout of psychedelia and acid-folk meets baroque pop feels like a joyous portal trip into a sun-kissed enchanted forest wonderland.
On the whimsical single, Jules Smith explains: “The single was loosely inspired by the time frame in which I recorded it, being the short interim between spring and summer when I decided to record lots of acoustic music on some dusty old equipment.
The lyrics came together in a stream of consciousness type process, where I write the first thing that often comes to me. When writing this single I let myself be influenced by all the visual stimuli around me. It’s very much an objective reply to the gradual change of the season and its subjective effects on me”.

Turn on, tune in and jump on the magic-bus ride that is Jules Smith.
