‘ALYONA’ by kiRk | New Album, ‘K’

Exclusive video premiere of ‘ALYONA’ by kiRk, taken from the upcoming album, ‘K’, out December 3rd via Requiem Records.

kIRk returns again. Olgierd Dokalski and Paweł Bartnik linked up with Stanisław Matys playing duduk. Matys and Dokalski form the wind & brass section, which is the identity core of the “new” kIRk. Two separate elements, the duduk and the trumpet, play simple themes, sunk in timelessness. Bartnik catches these themes on air and subtly processes them, loops and spreads them in space.

The foundation of ‘K.’ is a concord of different instruments and different people. It is a play resulting from listening to oneself and the surrounding world. Play which head to homeostasis. Gazing into timelessness and wishing to soothe. Anyhow, there are gusts of heart and disturbing visions on this road, and everyone – whether they like it or not – brings a piece of their history.

‘ALYONA’ is a story taking place at the Asian bazaar in Warsaw. In a chilly, November scenery, a passionate feeling is born between two emigrants. Both of them came here from far away. The bazaar is their everyday life – tamed, but boring and unpleasant at times. They work here and they spend their time here after work. Once they meet, everything becomes more beautiful. The noise of the city tucks up and soothes, and the neon lights saturate with a soft color … The story was written and directed by Olgierd Dokalski.

kIRk is a band which has distinctly marked its presence in Polish independent music. The collective has performed at the largest Polish festivals, such as Open’er, OFF Festival and Tauron Nowa Muzyka. Their music was complemented by Michael Gira from Swans, Nils Petter Molvaer and Jerzy Mazzoll.

kIRk is about morphing – from a techno trio playing in Tresor, through a multi-personal collective flirting with many streams of the so-called Urban Music, up to electro-acoustic improvised elements. The last decade of the band’s activity was treading on the dark side of the force – such albums as ‘Msza Święta w Brąswałdzie,’ ‘Zła krew’ or ‘III’ were reaching for extreme, far from idyllic emotions. Although you could still feel the spirit of the “old” kIRk there, ‘Ich dzikie serca’ published in 2017 heralded something new.
