‘Black Flamingo’ by Movie Club
Exclusive video premiere of ‘Black Flamingo’ by Venice Beach psych rock duo Movie Club.
In the spirit of Halloween this year, Venice Beach psych rock duo Movie Club again don their masquerade masks and do magic in a haunted spirit house —but this time in a vivid alternate color version of their music video ‘Black Flamingo,’ originally released in black and white in 2020.
Director & magician Ran Pink created this multi-color version to enhance the magic behind the video. At first glance, it is a music video that confounds and begs the question, How was it made? The short answer is it was shot with an incredible macro lens that is ideal to shoot miniatures and plants as if they were “real sized.” Combine that with a green screen and some video editing wizardry, and this one-of-a-kind video was born.
“This music video looks like a $100,000 production,” says Foo Fighters keyboardist Rami Jaffee, who plays organ on the track. Drummer Jessamyn Violet and guitarist Vince Cuneo continue their mission of blending their music with film.
They won several international film awards for their music video ‘Trap Door’ this year, including Best Music Video at the Istanbul Film Awards. The instrumental duo also creates a unique conversation with other artists. Earlier this year, they had held a residency in Brooklyn with fifteen other performers; including musicians, dancers, rappers, and poets. ‘Black Flamingo’ features special guests Rami Jaffee (Foo Fighters/Wallflowers) on keys, Jessy Greene (P!NK) on violin, and Tim Lefebvre (David Bowie) on bass. Movie Club is currently working on a new record and is planning their first U.S. tour in Spring of 2023.
