‘Remoan’ by Organised Scum | Album Premiere

Exclusive album premiere of ‘Remoan’ by Organised Scum, out October 28th.

‘Remoan’ is the first full-length album from veteran noise-rock melodists Organised Scum. The band has been releasing music since 2015. With their dabblings in folk, jazz-rock and psychedelia – always twisting melodies slightly out of shape and keeping the fuzz at a suitably high volume.

The current line-up consists of Tom Duggins (vocals, guitar), Sean Canty (drums, percussion) and Mehdy El Arabti (synth, bass). The band has settled on a more consistent sound on their latest album.

Inspired by a gothic, industrial approach that utilises synths more widely and dispenses with previous song-writing structures – the album wears its influences proudly: the theatricalism of Scott Walker, the brutalism of Suicide, the romanticism of Prefab Sprout, and the wry humour of Boards of Canada.

Conceived as a form of seance, an attempt to “remoan” about the 40 years of neoliberalism that has brought the UK to its knees, the album was recorded in Northampton’s The Lodge studios and engineered by Mark Cann. Thematically, songs cover everything from the creeping fascism of British politics (Cohen, Secret Stalinist), the loss of romance in an age of online dating (1980), class snobbery (Midland), to the quasi-apocalyptic writings of WG Sebald (Casement, Mulberry Leaf).

‘Remoan’ is being released on all digital platforms on October 28th – this is a first definitive statement from a collection of musicians that have been playing together for a decade but have finally found their voice.
