Exclusive album premiere of ‘The Summons’ by Broken Wolves, out October 27th.

Toronto dark-folk/alternative-rockers Broken Wolve will release their debut album, ‘The Summons’, available on Bandcamp and SoundCloud as of October 27th, with further distribution to all streaming services in following weeks.

Formed in 2017, the band made their live debut in 2019 and had their first release in 2020 with their EP and video series, ‘Live at Taurus’. Their recent effort, ‘The Summons’, is a revival of the “album rock” art-form, drawing inspiration from ‘60’s folk and psychedelic rock, ‘90’s alternative rock, and medieval art – a stark mix which has been compared to “dark folk” and an apt recent moniker, “Dirge Rock”. The subject matter of the band and album are steeped in themes of environmentalism and climate change, depicted in a modern take on the folkloric tradition that is both subtle and palpable in its execution.

Having received comparison to such disparate groups as The Doors, Soundgarden, and King Crimson, Broken Wolves’ debut is a must for any fan of alternative rock, psychedelia, and medievalism, and will prove to be an entertaining listen to any fans of gothic art and the darker sonorities found in rock and popular music.

Based out of Toronto, ON, Broken Wolves are influenced by folk, alternative rock, progressive rock, and medieval art. Originating in 2017, the band was initially composed of previous members of Ruby Cikada (2012-2017) as the core foundation, and has since seen a rotation of members before coalescing into its current quintet format.

Following their official live debut in 2019, the band recorded a short live EP and video series (‘Live at Taurus’, 2020).Of the many themes in the music, the content is highly focused on depicting the classic folkloric struggle of humanity vs. nature in the context of modern issues around environmentalism and climate change.
