‘Into My Dream’ by Bret Koontz & Truancy Club | New Album, ‘A Sparkle Road Cult’
Exclusive track premiere of ‘Into My Dream’ by Bret Koontz & Truancy Club, taken from the upcoming album, ‘A Sparkle Road Cult,’ out November 18th via Earth Libraries.
The sound at the center of ‘A Sparkle Road Cult’ is Bret’s voice. It’s an idiosyncratic writer and composer’s voice that has shades of the outsider sounds of Robert Wyatt, Syd Barrett, and Arthur Russell. The accompanying arrangements bring to mind the songcraft of the Carpenters and Prefab Sprout-esque Sophisti-Pop shaken up/down by a touch of the large format boogie of Wings and raw Power Pop of Big Star.
A particularly notable track off their new project is its focus track, ‘Into My Dream,’ on which Bret writes:
“‘The title of ‘Into My Dream’ says it best. Its chiller stereo acoustic opening serves as an entry point to a winding path that leads beyond shared experience, beyond the point of no return, and into the center of a tumultuous dreamscape. The mind’s eye of the hurricane? Okay, okay. . . part nostalgia-trip via Big Star anthem-ry spiked with a certain strain of 90s radio rock, part Syd Barrett slideshow: this song takes a stand for the protection of dreams of every kind.”
‘A Sparkle Road Cult’ will be out via all DSPs. It will also be printed as an Art Book Album + CD, which is available to pre-order via Earth Libraries.
