‘Sliding’ by Isaac Watters | New EP, ‘Extended Play 001’

Exclusive video premiere of ‘Sliding’ by Isaac Watters, taken from the upcoming EP, ‘Extended Play 001,’ out January 17th via hi-res records.

‘Sliding’ uses the metaphor of erosion to deal with the nostalgia of a carefree childhood. A smooth green hill in the sun meets fire and rain and over time is eroded into canyons and all the softness it once had is washed into the river. A man reflects on the erosion of his life as he walks along the storm filled river.

The EP as a whole is a reflection of our relationship with the planet through the lens of Los Angeles. The crowded freeways, the people living under them, the screens on every skyscraper with images of the natural world, the houses suspended on the edge of a cliff-hanging on nothing looking out over a sea of twinkling lights. The flailing power grid, the eroding canyons, the roads sliding down the edge of the coast into the sea. The pervasive sense of doom, which is creeping around the edges of all the self-help prophets, the piles of trash scraped together in every nook. The need for rain, the unrelenting perfect weather, and the golden sunlight. Maybe it’s a good EP to cry to. Maybe it’s a good album to dance to, maybe it’s about just trying to keep dancing while we’re crying?

Residing on the Eastside of Los Angeles and deeply embedded in a community of like-minded musicians and artists, Isaac Watters has long been busy dreaming up new ideas. In recent times, the soft-spoken innovator’s output has blossomed in a new and exciting way. “This feels like the record I was always trying to make,” Watters says of his forthcoming debut release, set to be unveiled via hi-res records as a pair of EPs. As Watters admits, in today’s crowded musical landscape, it sometimes requires drawing outside the lines to grab a listener’s ear. “So yeah, it’s definitely kind of weird.”
